Book Review: Do Less

Book Review: Do Less

Do less.

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear those words?

I purchased this book with the grand intention of reading it, sharing my thoughts, and doing less. But instead, I put it on my bookshelf, and didn’t open it for, several months. And then, only after I had made myself the sickest I’ve been for a very long time by trying to do too much… all while five months pregnant.

I finally read the book. And I’m sharing my thoughts so you can decide if it’s worth the read for you!

Health and Wellness Books... to Read

Health and Wellness Books... to Read

I have a confession to read. There’s a tiny hoarder in me… that hoards books.

Maybe you’re like me and have stacks of books in your house yet to read. Or maybe you haven’t read anything since the last time you were assigned a book in class.

Either way, these are some of recent health, wellness, and lifestyle books that I’ve picked up… and have yet to read.

Book Report- The Five Love Languages

Book Report- The Five Love Languages

f there is one thing that I truly believe, it’s that we are all works in progress. Every day we have the opportunity to get better. Since the moment I committed to Rob in front of our friends and family our marriage has been something I continuously want to make better.

Which leads me to this book.

I borrowed it on audio from Hoopla (but I have a physical copy in my library!) and we listened to it together on our mini-road trip. To be fair, I borrowed a couple books so I could let him choose which one we would “read,” but he let me choose, and I went with this one since I knew we could complete it during our trip.

Book Report- Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighten

Book Report- Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighten

Here we are!  As I promised you last week, this is my very first FRICKin Good Life book report. I made it especially for you. I hope you like it :)

Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighten

When it comes to books like this in the health and wellness space, my general recommendation is to take everything with a grain of salt. The authors who write books like these are passionate about their topics, and often come across as preaching “one right way” to do things. As a wellness professional myself, I know that there is no one “right way” or “one size fits all.” Whether its nutrient workouts, supplements, or the birth control pill.

Book Reports and My Library

Book Reports and My Library

A couple years ago I found myself mid-December not having read a single book that wasn’t somehow related to the health and wellness industry. Don’t get me wrong, I love to read, and I have a HUGE list of non-fiction books that I can’t wait to read, but I also love fiction. I love intriguing stories, and fluff, and Harry Potter.

So I joined a book club. I spent the year reading book club picks and re-reading all the chronological Valdemar series books by Mercedes Lackey and letting the health and wellness books I wanted to read pile up. And pile they did.

Ugh! So many books, so little time!

Frickin Good Life Book Club 2019

Frickin Good Life Book Club 2019

It seems inevitable that this was going to happen. After all, I’ve written not one, but two blogs about books and reading recently (you can read them here and here). Actually, if you count the blog I wrote about cookbooks that would be three.

I guess you could say that I have thing for books.

And I guess you could also say that it’s a rediscovered passion. While I spent my childhood devouring every book that was put in front of me, up until last year the last several years the only time I read anything that was not directly “career related” was over my Christmas vacation.  Not good.

Then last year, I started reading again.  I went back and started reading the entire Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey in timeline order.  And I rediscovered how the fanciful characters and stories could take me away and help me relax. I was hooked.
