Book Report- Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighten

Book Report- Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighten

Here we are!  As I promised you last week, this is my very first FRICKin Good Life book report. I made it especially for you. I hope you like it :)

Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighten

When it comes to books like this in the health and wellness space, my general recommendation is to take everything with a grain of salt. The authors who write books like these are passionate about their topics, and often come across as preaching “one right way” to do things. When I got my first smartphone I promised myself that I would not become anti-social or addicted.

I remember when BlackBerrys (CrackBerrys) first came out. I was not a fan. I didn’t love how everyone I knew that had one was always on their phone. The lack of interaction irritated me, and I was totally anti-smart phone.

I know, right?

Believe it or not, but my family literally got together one Christmas and bought me my first iPhone. They had all jumped on the bandwagon, and I was the only one left behind. Body Image Issues

I’m sickened. Seriously. I’m ill about this. It’s been on my mind constantly for the last two months, and now this?

So I posted about it. I wrote about how I wanted to reach back a year and a half ago and remind myself that you can’t see “health” with a look up and down. Health consists more than the number on the scale or the size of your pants.

Love Languages to Improve your Relationships

Love Languages to Improve your Relationships

Is there anything worse than getting a card with nothing but a signature inside?  Not to someone whose love language is words of affirmation.

How would you feel if someone sent you flowers because they flaked on you… again? If your love language is gifts, you’d probably appreciate the thought. But, if your love language is quality time, you might just wonder if that person is trying to buy your affection.

So what exactly is a love language? Well, the ones I’m talking about are “the 5” of the The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman.  In his book he explains how different people not only experience but express love.  While the original book is really aimed at couples, love languages can be used in any and every relationship. Yes, even at work.

The Languages are:

  • Words of Affirmation (words)

  • Quality Time (time)

  • Physical Touch (touch)

  • Acts of Service (service)

  • Gifts
