Word of The Year
/What’s your word this year?
Say what?
Your word. What’s your word?
Have you heard of this? Choosing a word for the year? Last year was the first time I’d heard the idea of choosing a word for the year. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know how I felt about it to begin with. I mean, how do you a pick a word for the entire year?
But after thinking it about it for a while and trying a couple words out, I finally settled on Power.
It was a good word for me last year.
I constantly reminded myself that even though there was so much changing around me and so much out of my control, I had my own power.
My strength was my power
My motivation was my power
My confidence was my power
My love and communication was my power
And so much more.
I had to remind myself that I my own power within. Even when it felt like everything was spinning out of control. I had the power to make my own decisions. I could continue on the path I was on, following the zigs and zags along the way, or I could completely way away. The choice was mine. And I had the power to make that decision.
While there were many decisions made last year, I knew that several of them would affect the way The FRICKin Good Life will evolve this year. While you could argue that I should have made some of those decisions sooner, they were the ones that brought me to where I am today.
Which brings me to my word of this year.
Open.
I will be open to everything this year and all the transitions it brings
I will be open to how this new baby will affect my business
I will be open to making changes that will allow me to be the best mom I possibly can be
I will be open to the possibilities that parts of my business that I have worked hard to build for the last five, or even nine years will come to an end
I will be open to the idea that parts of my business may begin to look completely different
I will be open to new ideas for times to spend with my friends
I will be open to how my body moves this year; now in pregnancy and postpartum
I will be open…
Well, you get the idea.
No, you don’t have to choose a word to accomplish amazing things. However, I found myself going back to my word last year over and over again. It became almost a mantra.
When things were difficult and challenging I would take deep breaths and say the word “power” over and over again. I’ve already done the same thing this year, and there’s something amazing about a simple word or phrase that you can use a focal point.

So whether or not you chose a word for this year, I encourage you to at least think on it… you know, be “open” to the idea.
