Is it WORTH it?

Time to talk desserts, because let's be honest... the next couple of months will have them. Probably lots of them.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE me some desserts, but I only eat them if they're "worth it".   Meaning- mom's homemade cookies, my girlfriends' fabulous homemade french pastries, and only the best chocolates (good thing I'm headed to Belgium over Christmas!)  Deserts that are amazingly delicious and not everyday items are worth it to me.

What I don't eat is store bought pies, cookies, cakes, and most candies.  Why? Because they're just "okay" (except for those weird frosted cookies... those are just icky), and to me, they aren't worth it.  They aren't worth putting extra sugars, fats, and calories into my body.  I'm much rather save those "treats" for something I'm going to REALLY enjoy, as opposed to something I eat because it's in front of me.

So why do we eat sweets that are just "okay"?

Granted, there are many reasons I could go into, but the one I hear most often is a combination of "because they (the sweets) are available" or that you don't want to throw them away, and therefore "waste" them.

Okay, HOLD UP! You're eating them just because you don't want to WASTE them?  Wait a minute... so you're saying that instead of putting them in the trash, you are putting them into your body.  Does anyone else see the problem here?  What you're telling me is that you are treating your body as a disposal system, not as the amazing and unique temple that it is!  Stop that!  You deserve better.

You deserve amazing, high quality, highly nutritious fuel that will help you power through your day; whether it be meetings, a project, or a two-year old. You deserve fuel that will help you feel younger than you are and continue to nourish your body, inside and out.  And you deserve a glass of wine and a decadent piece of chocolate. BUT! Only if that wine and chocolate are worth it to you.  If you'd rather have store-bought pie and grape juice I won't judge you, but I won't join you.

You see, we're different and we have different tastes. And throughout the year it's OKAY to treat yourself in moderation.  And you don't need to feel guilty about enjoying that treat.  However, don't eat something just because it's "there" or to avoid "wasting" it.

This year remind yourself that you are BETTER than that. We don't need to treat our bodies like trash cans. If we are eating something that is not clean, amazing fuel for our bodies, it's a treat. And why spend your treats on something you don't enjoy.
