Changes, Changes

Things are a changing. And it’s terrifying, scary, heart-wrenching, and emotional. It’s also exciting, exhilarating, and thrilling.

But that’s change, right? Change is always scary. Even exciting changes can be scary.

The hard thing about this change is that I’m not 100% sure what it will be or what it looks like yet. However, I feel as though I have to address it since it’s been put out there, I’ve been asked and I’d rather be honest about the situation now before it dissolves into a bunch of "he-said, she-said”.

As you may or may not know, when I’m training in any of the Club Fitness locations I’m a contracted trainer with Dynamic Fitness Management. There are some changes ahead in the relationship between these companies, but as a contractor, I’m not entirely sure what they are as of yet. However, in effort to be as transparent to my clients and students as possible, I wanted to share with you the email that I sent to my current DFM personal training clients last week.

The main update that I will add since I sent this letter is that I intend to have a better idea of what the Personal Training branch of The FRICKin Good Life (aka- my company, aka- me!) will look like going forward by the end of June, if not before. I won’t have it all figured out, but I hope to have a better idea of how things are going to progress by then.

No matter what the next steps are, I’m confident that this is an exciting time to be part of this FRICKin Amazing Community! Change is a coming.

We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea. Holding onto something that is good for you now, may be the very reason why you don’t have something better.

Hello All!

I know that I’ve had the opportunity to talk to some of you over the last couple days about the changes happening at the gym. However, I want to make sure you know that no matter what changes occur, I will take care of you.

Please know that you can ask me anything and I will not only answer your question to the best of my ability, but I will be 100% honest and transparent in my answers, even if the answer currently is “I don’t know.” I refuse to keep secrets from you and I will continue to relay information as changes occur.

First, many of you have received an email from Club Fitness stating that they will be “offering and managing Personal Training” with a targeted launch date of July 1st, 2019 along with an FAQ sheet about what that means.

If you received that email on Tuesday May 7th, you received that information before I was informed of this. I found out about the email and FAQs after teaching my 4:30 class on Tuesday, but did not see a copy of the email until Wednesday afternoon when a client sent it to me.

Since then here has been a lot of speculation about what that means. Here’s what I know:

  • Earlier this year we were told that Club Fitness (CF) would probably not be renewing their contract with Dynamic Fitness Management (DFM) in April of 2021. I did not see any reason to pass this information along when I originally heard about it since the contract date was over two years away and nothing had been confirmed

  • Later, we learned Club Fitness would not be using DFM trainers at the new Maplewood location that is set to open this summer, but we were not told anything about changes happening to any of the other locations

  • Tuesday at 5:30pm I was shown a letter from CF encouraging DFM trainers to apply for training positions at CF (with an “*” about being released from current non-compete agreements). What this means and how this works, I have no idea. However, what was inferred through the letter was that we would be required to go through an application, interview, and hiring process to be eligible to continue training at the CF locations

  • I received an email yesterday (Wednesday 5/8) from DFM stating that their relationship with CF will be dissolving sometime this year. The email stated that DFM is working on a smooth and peaceful transition to not being the exclusive provider of personal training at CF.

  • If I do not choose to become a CF employee I do not know how much longer I will be allowed to train at CF

At this time I don’t know that I personally will decide to become a CF employee. I want to continue to run my training business, The FRICKin Good Life, in the way that I see fit; including scheduled time to maintain and add to my website, blog, and newsletter as well as the additional client resources that I am able to provide to help you get the most out of your training experience. However, I will consider all options moving forward.

This being said, no matter what happens I will personally make sure you are taken care of. What that means to you is your choice. But I will do my absolute best to make sure you get what you want, and I promise you that I will not let you slip through the cracks.

  • If you want to continue to work with me, I will make sure that happens and I will keep you updated on what that will look like moving forward

  • If you want to transfer to a CF trainer, I will provide them your previous training experience to help your transition go as smoothly as possible.

What it comes down to is that you are my priority and following through in my commitment to work with you is important to me. No matter what happens, I will continue to be here for you. After all, I’ve almost made it an entire year of marriage without strangling my husband… and since he’s here in St. Louis, I suppose I’m stuck! = )

Moral of the story:

I’m here, I’ll be around. And I’m here to help you. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. Otherwise, I will continue to keep you informed as I continue to learn more.

Erin

Patience is not the ability to wait. Patience is to be calm no matter what happens, constantly take action to turn it to positive growth opportunities, and have faith to believe that it will all work out in the end while you are waiting.”
