Try Something New

Today, the weirdest thing happened.  I woke up early, looked at my workout calendar and realized it was a rest day.  So what did I do?  Pulled on my itty-bitty shorts (that I have no use for… I mean, TurboKick in shorts?  Bad idea… bad idea.), laced up my shoes, grabbed my iPod and went for a run.

What?!?!  But Erin, you hate running.  Like… hate running.  A lot.

I know, I realize this.  Running (to me) when you’re not going somewhere or being chased by something has no point.  But you know what?  This is the second time in 2 weeks that I’ve done this.  Now don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean I’m throwing out my TurboFire, Insanity: The Asylum, or LesMills Pump DVDs.  And I’m still starting Focus T25 on September 9th with my “Shaun T is Cray” support group.  However, the fact that this has happened not once, but twice, got me thinking.

Sometimes things change.  Just like how when I was little I didn’t like fajitas, forced down certain types of cheese, and preferred milk chocolate; things change.   Now I always order veggie fajitas when we’re out for Mexican, know that I could never be a Vegan because I’d go through cheese withdrawal, and would hold out for dark chocolate any day of the week.

So what’s my point?  Try, try, and try again.  That’s how you’ll find your soul-mate workout; the workout that you look forward to on a daily basis.  Who knows, maybe you tried it at the wrong time, or with the wrong people.  I know I’ve been to fitness classes where I generally like the format, but I don’t care for the instructor’s style or music selection.  Nothing wrong with that!  Try again.

Think out of the box and try something new.  Some of the most fun I’ve ever had was from buying a Groupon or Living Social coupon to explore something different.  Rock Climbing, Aerial Silks, Pole Dancing (yes, I’ve done it… and it’s HARD!), hot yoga, CrossFit… you get the idea.

Moral of the story is, there is something out there for you, you just have to find it.  It might not be easy, but it will be worth it.  If you need help, let me know.  I’m so convinced there is something for everyone that I want to put the time and effort into helping you find what’s out there for you.  Now is the time to get started.  To quote a famous phrase, “Just Do It”.
